Mary McCashin Website Case Study

Mary McCashin Website

Western Lifestyle Journalist, Mary McCashin, is one of my longest-running clients. She came to me in the summer of 2014 needing a website that included a portfolio that she could use to showcase her writing and publications. Mary was also in the process of writing a book that is now published. The main goals of her new site would be to showcase her writing, and feature her upcoming book in a clean layout that would be responsive, easy to use, and draw visitors to her content.

My favorite part of this website is the cleanliness and simplicity of the layout that draws the viewers eye right to the important featured content. I centrally featured the section about Mary's new book on the home page with links to all available retailers. I also made the portfolio page very classic with a square grid photo layout that is responsive for different size screens. As shown in the photo above, I gave the square photos a circle mouse-over hover effect with the article subject and publication listed. This allows the reader to know what they are about to read, as well as breaks up the strict block design of the grid of photos. The blue and green colors in the site were inspired by similar shades used in her own business card. Lastly, the portfolio set up is extremely easy to update from my end, allowing me to continually add more articles to Mary's portfolio as she writes them in minimal time, therefore allowing me to provide her with quick service and no unnecessary billed hours. Mary loved the site and after a few quick revisions and tests we were ready to go live.

Rachel is the best! She takes care of so much and made creating my website the easiest thing in the world. She’s quick to update things and is great with communicating about changes and updates. Definitely a worthwhile investment.
